I"m practicing posting from flickr. It's pretty neat, so i thought it'd be cool to try out. I'm gearing up!! I've gotten so excited! I almost don't want the trip to come because the excitement before it is just so addicting and wonderful! Yet I can't wait to gear up and take some mega photos of Japan. I regret I didn't take enough photos for the few days I went last tiem to visit my aunt. I took pictures of her home and her and the bus trip. I hope that I won't be to shy to take tons of pictures. I just want to be respectful toward people living there, but I just want to unabashedly take a picture of every little thing! Even a stone!! :) Wish me luck. I can't wait!!

Hi Mel, Just got back from Japan yesterday :), reading your blog, great to see your preperations for your trip, you must be itching to get out there! Travelling around Tokyo is very easy using the subway and you could cram in a lot more than you think your'e able! A great buy is the N'EX + Suica card that can be bought at the airport for 3500 Yen which gets you into Tokyo under an hour on the N'EX + 2000 Yen on the Suica Card to use on subways, buses, some food outlets & vending machines. Saves buying tickets for every single trip. The Suica card will also get you to Mitaka for the Ghibli Museum -which was awesome by the way :)- from Shinjuku on the Main Chuo Line (Take the rapid train and it'll take around 25mins, about 450 Yen)
Ahh..I couldn't blog because I was unable to get myself on the web, never really had time to set it up, took lots of pictures though. I would suggest getting your Ghibli ticket through one of your local agents listed on the main website, you are sent a confirmation voucher through the post which you swap at Ghibli Entrance for the real ticket. You'll need your passport too, to confirm you are the ticket holder. I paid £11 for the voucher. I heard you can buy tickets at Lawson stores in Japan, but how reliable that is I'm not sure due to limited foreign ticket allocation. The Suica + N'ex is a deal that can be picked up at the JR East Travel Center on the Basement floor of the Airport. For 3500 Yen you get the 'Suica' Card which you use to enter subways, JR Lines with 2000 Yen on it. Typical subway cost around 210+ Yen a trip. This is given with an N'EX ticket which will give you a seat number and train time (all seats on N'EX are reserved) to get you into Tokyo. It means you are only paying 1500 Yen to use N'EX where as normally it would be 3000 Yen. Bargain! It seems shoppings your thing and the one thing Tokyo is definitely good for is shopping! :)
Hi Mel, I took a medium sizeish backpack and just crammed it full of thin layer stuff, t-shirts and jumpers, a few jeans, undies and that. Pack thin stuff and you can chop and change everyday! It wasn't cold so you shouldn't need anything too heavy, Umbrellas are avaliable everywhere when it does rain, for a few hundred yen. I also took a shoulder bag for my laptop so I could upload pictures. I took the backpack because I was going to different places so it made it easier, but if you're just staying put in one I'm sure a roller bag is just as easy! I found wearing more stuff when flying out saved space in the backpack! Will upload some more stuff soon including Ghibli Museum bits! :)
